Des Plaines, Illinois, is a small suburb of Chicago that offers its residents and visitors the perfect mix of urban and suburban atmospheres. Glitz and Glam Spring Garden Ball
The 2023 Glitz and Glam Spring Garden Ball “A Night with the Stars” takes place on April 14 at the Rivers Casino Event Center on South River Road. The doors open at 6 p.m. for a 90-minute open bar with appetizers, followed by a delicious dinner with wine and another hour of an open bar. The night also includes a silent auction, a grand prize raffle, music, dancing, and entertainment by Bizar Entertainment. This is the event of the season for chamber members and a great way to get out with friends for a night out on the town.
The proceeds from the event will go toward chamber programming and the Educational Foundation. VIP tickets are $175 per person, or you can get a VIP table for eight for $1,350. All guests must be 21 or older.
An American Prayer – Tribute to the Doors

On Saturday, March 4, the Des Plaines Theater will host “An American Prayer – Tribute to the Doors.” This show celebrates the legendary band led by Jim Morrison. The show will take you back in time to Los Angeles in the 60s as you listen to the sound and songs that changed music. From “Riders on the Storm” to “Light My Fire” and “Break on Through,” it will be a night to remember.
Notre Dame Jazz Showcase
Head to the Des Plaines Theater on Saturday, April 1, for the Notre Dame Jazz Showcase. This annual tradition features four jazz bands on the same stage for a great day of entertainment. It’s the perfect opportunity to listen to the students and alumni of Notre Dame College Prep and the University of Notre Dame perform big band music. This year’s event features the following:
- The Notre Dame/Resurrection College Prep Jazz Ensemble.
- The University of Notre Dame New Orleans Brass Band.
- The Reunion Jazz Orchestra.
- The University of Notre Dame Jazz Band.
The show starts at 11:30 a.m. and runs until 1:30 p.m.
International Exposition of Contemporary and Modern Art
The International Exposition of Contemporary and Modern Art will take place from April 13 to April 16 at Navy Pier’s Festival Hall in Chicago. It will feature 170 leading international exhibitors showcasing works of contemporary art and culture. The annual expo has a reputation for providing the highest quality platforms for global contemporary art, using the city’s rich history to draw artists and visitors alike.
Tickets to the event are available on the EXPO CHICAGO website, a portion of which will go toward the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. A single-day admission ticket is $35, but you can also get a single-day ticket with a guided tour for $55 or a three-day admission ticket for $50.
Museum educators and other professionals in the world of art lead the guided tours of EXPO CHICAGO, providing you with an overview of the fair’s layout and highlights of the exhibitors and top artists. Your guided tour also includes information about commissioned artworks throughout the event. Once the tour is over, you can explore further at your own pace.
The West Loop Spirits, Cocktails, & Wine Festival with Artisan Delicacies
On Saturday, April 22, the West Loop Spirits, Cocktails, & Wine Festival with Artisan Delicacies will take place at the Stephen M. Bailey Auditorium, Plumbers Hall on Washington Boulevard in Chicago. During this fun-filled weekend, spirits brand ambassadors will discuss their processes and demonstrate the art of mixing cocktails, while wine representatives will provide information about their wines and wineries. New for 2023, Ready-to-Drink Cocktails will be available, and you can learn more about this growing trend and get some samples.
The proceeds from the event will benefit Voice of Care, an organization that supports people with disabilities. Tickets start at $40 for the Starter, with five tasting tickets and artisan delicacy samples. The Premier tickets are $55 and include 12 tasting tickets, a commemorative glass, a welcome bag, and food samples. You can also get the VIP Ticket for $75. This includes 20 tasting tickets, the commemorative glass, a gift tote swag bag, and food.
Chicago Blues Festival
The annual Chicago Blues Festival is the largest music festival in the city, with over 500,00 fans gathering in Millennium Park and other venues throughout the city for several days of music and performances. All the events are free and open to the public and feature some of the most talented and revered blues musicians. This event has been taking place in Chicago for almost 40 years and featured everyone from Etta James to B.B. King and more.
It’s important to know that general seating in the Pavilion and on the Great Lawn is first-come, first-served. You can save one seat in the Pavilion before each show, but once the show starts, you have to allow someone else to sit there if the person hasn’t arrived. Refreshments, including beer, wine, and food, are available for purchase at several concession carts throughout the park.
